Lighting Plots

Jerry Finnegan's Sister

For this design, realistic outdoor lighting was key to creating the right environment. Each of the characters needed their own spotlight for the moments they broke the fourth wall. A nighttime look was necessary for a few scenes that took place on the driveway. The set was broken down into three main areas that were lit independently to isolate different locations. A few lights were also added to create a dreamlike effect for scenes that took place in the main character's head.

Junie B. Jones Jingle Bells Batman Smells

In Junie B. Jones it was very important that the lighting reflect Junie's mood throughout the story. To accomplish this, high-side lights were added with gel scrollers so that the color of the fill light could change depending on how Junie felt. Spot lights were also necessary for Junie to stand in while dictating the contents of her journal entries.

Cat In The Hat

Cat In The Hat required a lot of moving lights to help create many effects. The rain in the first scene was created using intelligent lights as well as scenes that included slow-motion and the cleaning machine. Special PARs were added above each of the false prosceniums that would flash on and off to simulate a golf ball bouncing off the walls. Color changing down light was also heavily used in each scene.
